The Alamo Literacy Committee, composed of teachers and parents and spearheaded by Richard Lowden, was formed in the fall of 2013 in response to concerns about a significant number of Alamo students not reading at grade level. The Committee directed the development of the program, and brought on Jodie Louie to run the program. Ms. Louie, an Alamo parent and credentialed teacher with specialized literacy training, initiated her involvement by starting her Friday Lending Library as a volunteer in 2013. The goal of the Alamo Literacy Program is to improve the reading ability of every student who has been reading below grade level.
For more information about the Literacy Program or Committee, or to train and volunteer to be a parent-reader in the classrooms please contact Jodie Louie at jwlouiesf@gmail.com.
