Physical Education

Using the Physical Education Framework for the State Department of Education, Robert Shintaku, our physical education teacher has designed a program for students based on the guidelines for their grade level. The focus of his program is to prepare students, based on their developmental level and interests, to participate in a variety of athletic activities.

In the second grade, students spend time practicing motor skills. They do various drills and games, which involve running and catching.

In the third grade, students continue to develop their motor skills, and spend time on the concept of teamwork. Their game activities include dodge ball, "germ" ball, and capture the flag.

In the fourth and fifth grades, students are involved with skill development. They like the teamwork and strategy related to "three on three" basketball and field hockey.

This is just a "snapshot" of the physical education program for students at Alamo. Next time you are at school, spend some time in the yard and watch students learning and enjoying their physical education activities.
